A shared library,
independent playback

Kasenna developed MediaBase, a video server platform supporting streaming over internet protocol networks. It connected video storage and delivery with the systems used to manage a television service.

Video on demand created separate viewing sessions. Each subscriber’s request needed server, storage and network capacity at the point they chose to watch.

Content and storage

Stored programmes needed to connect with content preparation and management systems so they could be made available through the service.

Streaming and service management

Deployment involved integrating the server software with delivery and operator systems. Reliability depended on how those components worked together as viewing demand changed.

MediaBase within Espial

Espial acquired Kasenna in July 2008. It subsequently marketed the MediaBase technology under the Espial name, carrying the video server platform into its own product offering.
